Eurotunnel on return journey to profit
While the aviation industry remains in chaos with airports and airlines racking up billions of pounds of losses, the Channel Tunnel has returned to profit.
Eurotunnel operates the sub-sea link between England and France, running Le Shuttle trains for cars and lorries. It is part of a holding company, Getlink, which also levies access charges on the separately owned Eurostar high-speed trains operating between London, Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam, and on freight train operators.
It reported pre-tax profits for the first half of the year of €52 million, a reversal of the losses of €127 million it reported in the first six months of 2021. Last year losses totalled €237 million on top of a €119 million deficit in 2020.
